What is Autism?
Autistic people might:
- Have difficulty with communication and social interactions.
- Struggle to understand others’ thoughts or feelings.
- Find sensory stimuli like bright lights or loud noises overwhelming.
- Feel anxious in unfamiliar situations or social events.
- Take longer to process information.
- Engage in repetitive behaviors or thoughts.
Understanding Autism:
Not an Illness: Autism is not a disease or illness; it simply means that a person’s brain functions differently from others. It is a lifelong condition that one is born with, and while signs may be noticed early in childhood, they can also emerge later in life.
No Cure: Autism is not a medical condition that requires treatment or a cure. However, some autistic individuals may need support in certain areas of life.
Living with Autism:
A Full Life: Autism does not prevent someone from living a fulfilling life. Autistic individuals have their own strengths and challenges, just like everyone else. With the right support, they can form friendships, build relationships, and pursue meaningful careers.
A Spectrum: Autism exists on a spectrum, meaning that every autistic person is unique. Some may need minimal or no support, while others might require daily assistance from a parent or caregiver.
Misconceptions About Autism:
Autism is not caused by poor parenting, vaccines, diet, or infections.
Autism can sometimes run in families, but it is not contagious.
Co-occurring Conditions:
Autistic individuals may also experience conditions such as ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, depression, or epilepsy.
Intelligence among autistic people varies, with some having average or above-average intelligence, while others may have a learning disability that affects their ability to manage daily life independently.
Understanding and acceptance of autism are key to supporting autistic individuals in leading happy, productive lives

For Preschool and educational settings
Inclusive practices mean large numbers of autistic children attend mainstream education settings. To manage the stressors involved and access its benefits, support can be critical. Indeed, insufficient support can detrimentally impact wellbeing and development.
At No Limitations Autism Consultancy, I can bridge that much needed gap and assist you in putting the correct support in place.
My part time role as Autism Lead Practitioner, in an outstanding mainstream primary school, gives me the knowledge, experience and skills to be able to develop the support needed in many pre-school and primary place settings
